As you can see, part of the fun is donning as much bling as possible. :) Our resident jewelry expert with 50 years of experience, Billie Thomas, will be available to assess your family collection, refreshments will be out, and the store will be brimming with sparkly deals.

Pickin' in Central Texas

What a blast to dig through 3 large rooms, several back hallways and even a meat locker full of junk and antiques! That's what I got to do this past weekend, thanks to my loving and hard working son who arranged this pick with his in-law family. The site was Bartlett, Tx, the home of the BEST hamburger anywhere at "Lois & Jerry's". The home was a lovely 1930's 2-story stucco with a delightful back house that had been created by the Grandpa and filled with decades worth of his projects, hobbies and estate sale finds.
In the initial walk thru, I pointed out the large items that my son and husband could carry out to the driveway. We found 2 old mantels, a couple of awesome front doors, cabinets, an antique cash register, several large cast iron wash pots, a big ol' floor scale, windows, a chair or 2 and a sweet full size garden gate/door. While they did that haulin', I did the close up diggin around. This uncoverd doorknobs, deerhorns, chandeliers, pots, tools, horse gear, meat hooks of all sizes, ....well, all kinds of stuff! Was I having a blast!?! Once we (they) got it all loaded into the trailer, we pulled it back to Lufkin and unloaded it here at the store. Now begins the cleaning, research, and pricing to have it all ready for you guys. Come and see!

What a gorgeous season of color we’ve had with our trees - breathtaking at times. How like God to give some of His best artistic talent to the process of death! God does not discard his creation lightly; He honors the passing with beauty and purpose. Maybe that is some of why we antiquers feel fulfilled in our passion – we are rescuing the old, repurposing the discarded, displaying the lasting beauty of old things. Our New Year’s mantra is a little different – “Out with the new, in with the old.” Happy New Year!!

Yes, it is, for the human warmth, the family feelings, the generosity witnessed, the general happy atmosphere. But we all need to remember that it is wonderful for a much more somber reason - that God looked on our sinful, separated state and, moved with compassion and deep love, planned a way to overcome the separation by sending His own Son, His own essence, to come live among us, then die for us, thus paving the way for each of us to regain access to perfect union with God. A union He created us to have. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

This week, for Downtown Shopping Week, we're going to stay open late on Thursday (til 7 pm) for those who work and can't get here during regular hours. Then, on Saturday morning we'll join in opening early (9am) for the Christmas Shopping Brunch, where the various stores will serve brunch items while shoppers take advantage of the extra hours and good variety of shopping experiences downtown. How thankful I am for all that God has allowed and provided in establishing this business. Sometimes, when I'm walking through the shop turning on lights, I see things that remind me how many people contributed to our start-up - friends who cleaned, carried, moved stuff, or who worked on getting electrical connections in key places, or who painted and painted - strangers who gave me advice and encouragement as I went through the government hoops of setting up a business - dealers who came along side me and have added such beauty and experience - acquaintances who helped spread the word of our opening - professionals who led me into advertising appropriately. so many wonderful contributions. But I guess I have been most surprised by how affected I have been by customers who have been so complimentary and friendly. Each day is a joy as all different kinds of folks come through and add a little to our atmosphere, and often to my growing knowledge of the antiquing world. Antiquers are the greatest. I am so grateful to be among you!

If you've never shopped antiques in Lufkin, this is the weekend to come! Our downtown area will be brimming with great opportunites to find something special. Beautiful Things (furniture refurbishing) will start things off on Thursday with a loft sale at Blithe Boutique on 1st St. A Furniture Fetish (corner Angelina & Shepherd) and The Wishing Well Warehouse (Frank) will begin their sales on Friday and continue through the weekend, along with a multi vendor shopping show called Hello Holidays. The Vintage Flea Market will be set up on Saturday at Heritage Antiques (corner 1st & Burke) and our 2 other antique malls, Lufkin Antique Mall and Forgotten Treasures will be having inside/outside sales. Maps will be available at any spot to direct you to all the others.
Our Lufkin Art Guild Fall Show & Sale (Frank) will be open to the public at 1 on Saturday as well. So you can see there will be plenty to do, see and buy this weekend in downtown Lufkin! Ya'll come. :)

Goings on in and around Heritage Antiques

Hey, friends!

I have several tidbits to share with you: One is that we've finally opened our outside backyard for business! You can find windows, screens, old plows, porch railings.. all that kind of rustic outside stuff. We are taking consignments there, too, at a 70/30 split, so just let me know if you want to stick something out there. In nice weather, the door will be open, but if it is shut, feel free to go on out.

If you are interested in old cameras, we've just put out a new display with several different kinds.

October is "Entertainment in the Park" month, where different area musical artists perform each Friday at Calder Square in downtown Lufkin during the lunch hour. Lunches are available for purchase, but you are free to bring your own (and bringing your own chair is a good idea, too).
This Friday our good friend, Bryan Harkness, is playing so I'll be down there for sure!

And..our good friends at A Furniture Fetish are moving downtown to be in the middle of all the fun that has been developing with so many new businesses! They are having their grand opening this Saturday (Oct 8) in the old Quality Bargains building at the corner of Angelina and Shepherd. You can just walk down the alley between the two of us!
And of course, I want to remind you of our participation in Lufkin Antiques Weekend, Oct 21 - 22, with our own Vintage Flea Market out in our front parking lot from 9 - 2 on Saturday. We still have room for more vendors, too. Call if interested. There will be several other venues with antiques and vintage items out for sale, so make downtown Lufkin your destination that weekend.

We are saddened by the fact some of our vendors have retired and closed out their booths; however, this has made room for several new vendors.

Welcome to Barbara Parker who has placed some lovely crystal and Copeland/Spode china in our glass display case by the cash register.

We also welcome Brenda Thompson and her daughter, Necole, who have opened a booth upstairs containing vintage children's clothing.

Our other new vendors include Rosmary Geraci (display set up over the fireplace) and Kayla Ellison (upstairs booth).

Other changes which took place this month: Mary Jane West moved her booth downstairs, Erline Ingle relocated her booth of shabby chic items, and Kay Robert expanded her booth to accommodate more of her beautiful furniture.

All of the vendors are consistently adding new items and rearranging. If you love shopping for antiques, vintage items, shabby chic, or just want to reminisce, drop in and look around. You might just find that elusive, one-of-a-kind item for which you've been searching.

Here I am ready to head over to Royer's at Zapp Hall on Thursday night in Warrenton. Gonna wander through the staying-open-late booths for my evening sustenance before the JuNK-o-RamA prom!

Billie was once again set up selling her beautiful vintage jewlery and graciously answered questions from folks who brought in their own potential heirlooms. Other vendors in our shop pulled out sparklies of all sorts and this place was just gleaming. A lot of the fun was seeing how each vendor glammed up their outfits. We had a few all out "fires" and "ices" and others just blingy (oh yeah, and Bobbie in her Biker Chic!).
The refreshments table was brimming, highlighted by Betty Smith's divinity. mmmm.

An Old Fashioned Christmas

We had a fun time last Saturday in our "old-timey" outfits. Wassail was served on an old woodburning stove (thanks to modern marvels of plug in hotplates!), and other brunch refreshments were out on depression glass plates. One option is to remake some of your own vintage jewelry. Fun. The time is 10 - 4, the teachers are Adelle Becker and Gladys Swanson. Gosh, We were really in the countdown at this time last year - just one week from opening! I was measuring and taping out booth spaces, vendors were bringing in their basic setup to begin putting up their creative displays, and we even had a few eager customer drop in to see if they could shop yet! I was also spending literal hours on the phone trying to get my credit card machine up and going. sheesh. But in all of it, God's hand was evident, and a wonderfully helpful atmosphere was displayed. Good relationships were forming. As excited as I was, I sure was nervous too and was having trouble sleeping. If I'd had real comprehension of what was ahead I would have been sleeping like a baby.

Coming up on our first Birthday!

Gosh. This time last year, we were still shoveling dust, painting walls, washing windows, moving furniture, unpacking boxes, setting up computer, rewiring outlets, arranging booth spaces and all else that needed to be done in order to open our doors. It was such a special time, because God was blessing each day in unexpected ways. There were so many small obstacles, but one by one, God showed us how to get around, over or through them. I'm smiling right now thinking about that time.

And so many people lent a hand in all of it, many with nothing to gain personally. I have thanked everyone, I think, but I just have to say it again, "Thank you to my friends, coworkers and community folks who did your part in opening Heritage Antiques!" What a blast this first year has been. :) Our Birthday celebration will be all week, Sept 13 - 18 and it will be wonderful if those reading this blog could drop by for a piece of birthday cake. Hope to see you!

This time last summer

I received a notice from the bank today that 1 year ago, I opened the account for Heritage Antiques. Wow. At that time, I had NO idea what I was getting into :) I was taking one step at a time, asking for God's leading the whole way. He led me to wonderful Lufkin people at each juncture who gave me tidbits of information and encouragement, so that I went from someone who knew absolutely nothing about business to some one who actually owned and operated a viable business!

For sure, the best thing about the whole experience, besides seeing God work so faithfully on my behalf, has been meeting and getting to know each one of my dealers. Some of you are ones who helped clean this place up so you really know "from whence we came."! But a close second has been meeting so many nice, happy, knowlegeable, friendly customers. Antiquers are the best!

Hey, guys! I've been out of town visiting my folks so we're behind on the news here at Heritage. I left the shop in the very capable hands of Glenda and Kay, so all was well when I returned. Being back in the store the last 2 days has been so much fun! Weds we had our weekly "dealer day" and 7 of us sat around one of the snack bar tables sipping punch and munching tea cakes, cookies, fruit and cheese. Good times with great people. :)

God really blessed us with cooler weather that day. I took it as a personal gift from Him, as I had been anxious and then finally just left the heat in His hands. It had been in the upper 90's all week, but Thursday was just in the 80's! That's all it took to make our upstairs pleasant for the big crowd that came. We had the junk gypsy look well represented, as well as the cowboy chic. Oh, such good food, music, art and conversation. Most of our artists sold something, so that is great.

Sale a Success

The Outdoor Flea Market at Heritage Antiques this past weekend was a great success. God really blessed us with a surprise sunny day instead of the predicted heavy thunderstorms. Eight vendors were brave enough to set up and it made a good impresssion from the road. In fact, there were three different people inside tell me that they were just driving by, saw the hubbub, pulled in to the parking lot and then noticed a new antique mall! So our purpose was served. Sellers report pretty good sales out there, and we had good sales inside, too. So I think we will try it again next Fall.

Outdoor Vintage Flea Market

We are trying to put together an Outdoor Vintage Flea Market, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 24 on the grounds at Heritage Antiques. We have such a great group of vendors and having a one day Flea Market would allow you to come out and shop our grounds with our vendors and then you can also see what they have to offer inside the shop as well. There is a vast amount of antiques that they bring in constantly, from English Antiques to fun and funky things to the unusual items. You just have to come and see for yourself. Fire & Ice Event

was a huge success. Lufkinites young and old enjoyed the days of "Fire and Ice" at Heritage Antiques recently.

Longtime vintage jewelry dealer, Billie Thomas, was set up wtih her beautiful wares and was also available to give assessments on folks' personal jewlery pieces. There were some lovely pieces brought in.

Others took advantage of the food goodies set out and everyone had fun mingling around looking at and buying antiques.

Vendors delighted in "dressin' gaudy" with our own jewelry. The event was a hit, so watch for it to surface again next year!

New Blog for Ann

Heritage Antiques is pleased to have local vintage jewelry expert, Billie Thomas, as one of our vendors now. Billie has been buying and selling mid to high end vintage jewelry for over 50 years and she knows her stuff.

To celebrate our "icy" January month we've been having and our new jewelry dealer, we are having a 2 day "Fire and Ice" event starting on January 28-29. Billie will be set up with her beautiful wares and she will also be available for assessments on your personal collections. Have you ever wondered which pieces of your grandmother's jewelry was worth something and which pieces should be parted with? Bring them in and let Billie give you her thoughts on these.

Many of our vendors will have special displays of "ice" - rhinestones, silver, crystal, or of "fire" - colorful jewelry or glassware. And we'll be dressin' gaudy!

One Day Sale

Heritage Antiques is sponsoring a one-day sale on December 10th. Several vendors will be setting up their things in the upstairs area selling their wares from 10am to 5pm. So please come and check out their things.

The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

This is the True meaning of Thanksgiving: Psalms 71:15 "My mouth will tell of thy righteous acts, of they deeds of salvation all the day, for their number is past my knowledge." Take time this Thanksgiving season to tell of His acts and deeds.

Listing blessings does indeed makes us realize we could never know all He has done for us. Each night I thank Him for just living in a society where I have a soft bed and pillow! I never expected to own an antiques business, but He dropped one in my lap in the best place and with great dealers. There are far too many blessings to list, but our hearts can overflow into Thanksgiving for what we do know. The greatest of all for me is that I don't have to face paying for my own sins, having fallen short of God's perfection, but He has done it for me and holds a place for me with Him in eternity! Thank you, God!

Heritage Antiques will be closed the day before Thanksgiving, November 25 and on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, but we'll open with a bang the day after Thanksgiving with refreshments for your shopping pleasure!

May this month be joyeous as you celebrate coming together with your family and loved ones and may God's protection be provided for you and may each sense your place in God's plan for this world.

Restoring The Soul Open House

Ann Perry, one of the vendors in Heritage Antiques, is having an Open House themed "Restoring The Soul" at her shop "The Tin Rabbit" in Melrose Texas on Thursday, November 19 at 10am.

Heritage Antiques is expanding due to the great response of vendors that are interested in moving in. We are so thankful for you all that have joined our shop and for those that have requested to be on our waiting list. The upstairs portion of Heritage Antiques will hopefully be open for business on December 1st! Just in time to display your things for Christmas.

If you are interested in being a part of our wonderful shop, please stop by and see us or you can call and talk to us about your interest.

We have also decided to start a new tradition, Tea in the afternoon. Please come out and join us, bring your favorite coffee/tea cup and leave it there for your enjoyment each time you want to come in, you are most welcome to. We'd love to have you.

If you haven't had the opportunity to stop by and visit our new shop, please put this on your places to visit. The shop is constantly changing with new merchandise and as we fill up our new spaces with new vendors, there's bound to be something that catches your eye and you can't live without it.

Grand Opening A Huge Success

Heritage Antiques had their Grand Opening event on Tuesday, October 13, and it was very successful. I want to thank all that attended both openings and personally invite you to come out if you've not had the chance to visit the shop.

We are a multi-dealer shop with a friendly atmosphere and a wide variety of dealers. You can find primitives, modern, cottage, industrial, the unusual, traditional, and just off the wall antiques.

Look Who Made The News

Laura and Heritage Antiques was recently featured in the Lufkin Connects online news. They sent an editor to attend the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting ceremony. I think they did an awesome job of featuring Laura and the shop.

Here's just a small portion of what was written, "Owner Operator Laura Koch was a delight as was the open house. Various dealers and downtown merchants’ friends and family as well as the general public joined in the festivities, to celebrate this wonderful addition to our downtown historic section of Lufkin."

Grand Opening

The Grand Opening of Heritage Antiques is scheduled for tomorrow, October 13 at 10am. We are a multi-dealer mall with a wide selection of vintage antiques and altered art items. Heritage Antiques is located at 110 W. Burke St. in Lufkin Tx 75904 or you can reach the shop at 936/632-0110. If you can make it out to our Grand Opening tomorrow, we would love to meet you. We will have refreshments and a welcome smile to greet you tomorrow.

Karen Armstrong's booth carries a wide selection of vintage black and white, apothecary items, mannequins, and vintage Halloween.

If you are looking for that vintage piece of china we might just might have it or you can leave a note of what you are looking for and we'll search for it.

Ann Perry is known for her creative displays and carries altered art items as well.

Marion Rogers has over 20 years in the business and her creative eye can be seen in this photo and the one below.

Theresa Cano of Garden Antqs Vintage carries a mix of vintage, cottage, and the unusual. The photo above and below are her booth.

In Irlene's booth you can find furniture, cottage, and things that she can only find in her travels.

Soft Opening A Success

The Soft Opening we had on September 14th was a great success. If you didn't get to attend, don't fear because our Grand Opening is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13th. Please make plans to attend the opening, it's going to be great since we've had several new dealers move in since then and those that attended the Round Top/Warrenton Antique Shows are bringing new things in.

Heritage Soft Opening ~ Sept. 14

Ladies and Gents, mark your calendars for the soft opening of The Heritage Antiques Shop on Monday, Sept. 14th starting at 10:00 am. Please come out and celebrate with us as we open the new shop. There'll be refreshments and a festive atmosphere and some of the dealers that are in the shop will be there so you can meet them.

We are so excited of the group of people that have joined the shop. There is such a wide variety of things that we know you will want to come back time after time to find your many treasures. And just think, we are opening right before the Round Top/Warrenton Antique Shows start and you'll be able to get your last minute shopping in before you head to the shows.

Everyone hadn't totally moved in last night during our first vendor meeting, so please check back often and we will be updating the blog with new photos.

We also have vendors that will be at the Round Top/Warrenton Antique Shows so their booths may look a little sparse, but it won't take them long to fill it up once they return. We so hope to see you on Monday!

New Shop Opening Soon

Heritage Antiques is a new antique/vintage shop that will be opening on September 14th in downtown Lufkin Texas. We are located at 110 W. Burke Street. You will just be amazed at the awesome talent of dealers that will be in our shop and pictures will be forthcoming. We want this to become your shop, the place you long to visit, the place where you bring friends and can't wait to come back.

We will hopefully eventually have a Tea Room available for your dining pleasure. This was to start originally with the opening of the shop, but we've had a slight set back which will just allow us to take another venue. You will be able to plan special events here, wedding and baby showers, celebrations, or treat yourself to wonderful food. Antiques of all kinds from cottage, primitive, modern to the unusual and a bit of it all will be available on the first floor. We will hopefully open the second floor in time, so please be patient with our construction project there.

Our soft opening is scheduled for September 14, 2009 (more news to follow about this). Our desire is to carry the things you are looking for and can be found in our place. If we don't have what you are looking for, let us know and we will search for it. Our grand opening is scheduled for October 13th (please note date change). Please mark your calendars for our grand opening or if you can stop by before then we'd love to have you. Our hours are Monday through Saturday, 10am - 5:00pm and you can also reach us at 936/676-0110.
